PENDLETON — The Oregon Wheat Foundation has awarded a total of twelve $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors for 2017 in 12 Oregon counties. Students were judged on their community involvement, academic achievement and an essay on a wheat industry topic.
Umatilla County’s winner, Bethany Newtson, is a graduating senior at Griswold High School and plans to study the field of integrated plant science and elementary education at University of Idaho.The daughter of Jeff and Sharilyn Newtson of Helix, her school sports include basketball, volleyball, cross country and track. She is student body president, is a member of FBLA and the National Honor Society, and founder/president of Inspire Club. She also volunteers on several school and community projects.
Oregon Wheat Foundation Scholarships are open to high school seniors whose parents are members of the Oregon Wheat Growers League or whose parents are employed by grower members of the organization. The scholarship is also open to students employed by grower members.
