The Abby’s Closet Board of Directors, along with the Dreams Scholarship Committee, have announced the winner for the 2018 Abby’s Closet Dreams Scholarship. Christina Swafford has been selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship award.
Christina is a senior at Weston-McEwen High School in Athena, varsity tennis captain and a member of National Honor Society. Christina is active in her community, working to collect Christmas gifts for veterans, volunteering for local organizations, and collecting prom dresses from her peers to distribute to other girls. When Christina heard about Abby’s Closet, she was excited, as she had been doing a similar activity on a smaller scale — loaning dresses to girls in her community for the past four years.
Christina had the privilege to receive 100 dresses from Abby’s Closet to distribute in Athena and surrounding communities. This amazing opportunity has allowed more girls the chance to find their dream prom dress.
Christina will be attending Linfield College in McMinnville in the fall of 2018 to study psychology and Spanish. Christina plans to become a clinical psychologist in order to work with veterans and their families, an issue that is close to her, as her father is a Marine Corps veteran. Christina is ambitious, and extremely excited about her future and the chance to be a member of the Abby’s Closet family.
Christina has distributed 60 dresses to local schools. She hopes to get local schools involved for next year and reach as many girls as possible.
