PENDLETON — The Kiwanis Club of Pendleton recently awarded three $1,000 scholarships to adult students attending Blue Mountain Community College. This year’s recipients are Zenda Simmons, Marlee Goodnight, and Trey Tucker. All three women have recently returned to academia in order to pursue a career in which they feel they can make a positive difference in their community.

Zenda Simmons is enrolled in the psychology department, and is currently part of the Associate Student Government at BMCC. In addition, she is an active community volunteer and a mentor to new-to-college, first-generation students at the college.

Marlee Goodnight is a business major, having recently re-entered academia after a 15-year hiatus. In addition to her aspirations to receive a business degree, Goodnight is employed at a local church, and is an active volunteer at the Salvation Army.

Trey Tucker is currently working as a medical assistant, and has been accepted into the BMCC nursing program. Her aspirations include pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Oregon Health & Science University, and eventually bringing her skills back to Eastern Oregon as a nurse practitioner.
